Overview
The ALTOSONIC V12 is a high-performance multipath ultrasonic flowmeter for custody transfer (CT) measurement of gases. The meter is designed to deliver high measurement accuracy under both ideal calibration conditions and real field conditions. It supports natural gas, natural gas/hydrogen mixtures, pure hydrogen, CO₂, and many other gases as required by gas Transmission System Operators (TSOs).
Unlike other CT gas flowmeters on the market, the ALTOSONIC V12 features a dedicated center path, significantly improving Reynolds number independence and minimising sensitivity to flow profile distortions. Even with changes in gas composition, accuracy is not compromised, resulting in greater flexibility and reduced calibration costs. Calibration at a single reference gas allows the flowmeter to be used with a wide range of gases and gas compositions. The meter has been extensively tested and fully complies with all ISO and AGA perturbation requirements. This ensures higher measurement reliability, excellent performance, and overall long-term stability.
The ALTOSONIC V12 comes in two main versions, the ALTOSONIC V12 Essential and the ALTOSONIC V12 Standard. The ALTOSONIC V12 Essential is the economical CT meter designed for the majority of applications involving natural gas or natural gas/H₂ mixtures in traditional installation set-ups. This ultrasonic gas flowmeter is capable of measuring exceptionally high flow velocities across all diameters, independent of the transducers used. The ALTOSONIC V12 Standard includes additional capabilities such as integrated swirl compensation and has been designed for CT applications with demanding installation conditions that cause flow profile disturbances. It also offers an extended range of wetted material options, making it suitable for use in particularly challenging environments like offshore locations and with demanding media such as pure hydrogen.
Condition-based monitoring (CBM) diagnostics are standard and provide a precise view of what is happening inside the flowmeter. To support this, both meter variants feature a dedicated diagnostic path for detecting bottom contamination in the flow sensor. In this way, the ALTOSONIC V12 enables true predictive maintenance, allowing operators to take action before bottom fouling or pipe wall contamination can compromise measurement accuracy.
Both meter versions are optionally available with KROHNE Care™, a web-based diagnostics expert system that translates meter diagnostics and CBM information into clear, immediately usable insights, e.g. on the degree and effect of fouling in the meter – all without requiring expert knowledge from the operator. Via an integrated webserver, KROHNE Care™ provides enhanced checks of the meter performance and accuracy 24/7 for increased uptime. In this way, it easily surpasses the analytical depth and functionality of common health and condition monitoring technologies available for process instrumentation. With KROHNE Care™, the risk of operating outside specifications is reduced to a minimum.
The ALTOSONIC V12 holds all relevant CT certifications and is ideally suited for use in combination with the SUMMIT 8800 flow computer for custody transfer flow measurement. It also has a long track record as the main flowmeter on custody transfer metering systems for gases.
